Biography

As Founding Dean Emeritus of the Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM), Dr. Jay Goldsmith was was instrumental in establishing TCDM as the first new dental school in New York State in more than 50 years. He was the college‚Äôs first appointed Dean from 2016 to 2017 and is also a Professor of Dental Medicine. 

Dr. Goldsmith has a distinguished career in academic medicine, including having previously served as Professor and Deputy Chief of the Department of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College. While there he was also the Residency Program Director responsible for providing supervision and teaching of general practice, oral and maxillofacial surgery residents and undergraduates. 

Board certified by both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Goldsmith has been the recipient of multiple awards. He received the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York Humanitarian Award for dental identification for victims of attack on NYC on September 11, 2001 from the New York County Dental Society. He has also received the Theodore Blum prize for excellence in Oral Surgery and the New York Medical College Award for Dedicated Service to Academic and Clinical Excellence Award for Humanitarian Efforts in Pediatric and Maxillofacial Surgery for multiple humanitarian missions.

Dr. Goldsmith held a successful private practice in New York City for 39 years and served for six years as a Captain in the United States Army Reserve and a Training Officer for the 300th Medical Detachment Field Hospital during the Vietnam era. He is licensed to practice in the states of New York and New Jersey.
