Ready for your child’s first appointment? Request an appointment.

Your child’s first visit typically includes radiographs (x-rays). Radiographs are essential to monitor dental development and spot issues that can’t be detected during a routine exam. Timing and frequency of radiographs are based on each child’s unique dental findings.
They also receive diagnostic exams of the teeth, jaws, bite, and oral tissues to check their growth and development. This visit may also include a prophylaxis (cleaning) or fluoride to reduce the risk of early childhood tooth decay. Your student-faculty team provides oral health education in a fun and interactive way. We aim to encourage healthy dental hygiene habits as early as possible.
A Full Range of Affordable Pediatric Dental Care
As a clinical training facility, Touro Dental Health Kids offers all aspects of general and specialized dental care that’s affordable for families. When needed, our pediatric student-faculty teams work with our oral surgeons or orthodontists for specialized care. This specialized care is available at rates typically 20-50% less than a traditional private practice.
We also make it convenient to schedule all of your family’s dental care in the same location at the same time! At Touro Dental Health, we have a full-service dental practice covering every facet of dental and oral health.
A State-of-the-Art Facility Designed for Families
Our modern 2,600-square-foot space features a separate reception and play area just for families. We have six dental treatment rooms, including two spacious fully-private rooms to treat children in a quiet, distraction-free environment.
Our facility is equipped with advanced digital dentistry technologies. We also offer nitrous oxide, otherwise known as “laughing gas,” which works to alleviate dental anxiety and promote comfort, when needed.

Why Choose Touro Dental Health Kids
At Touro Dental, any dental specialist you could need is right next door. This means if your child has any oral challenges outside of the scope of general dental care, you can often consult with a specialist that same day. Our dental specialists, from oral surgeons to orthodontists, are here to help.
We have two dentists who specialize in treating individuals with special needs, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder. This care extends to patients with special needs of any age. Some cases may require a referral for comprehensive care in a hospital room under general anesthesia, but as long as you are in our chairs, we work hard to make sure all our patients feel safe and cared for.
Our orthodontic clinic is also right next door. This means we can easily coordinate visits with our orthodontist, so your child can have their dental and orthodontic appointment on the same day! For more info on orthodontics and braces, visit our Orthodontics page.

Common Questions Parents Often Ask
When should my child come in for their first dental visit?
A good time for your child’s first dental appointment is after their first birthday or after their first tooth comes in. Establishing good dental care early on is important! Visit our helpful page on baby teeth care for more insight on your child’s dental development.
Are dental students supervised while performing dental work?
Yes! Dental students are always supervised by faculty. Our experienced dentists are always here to handle more complex oral health challenges or procedures.
Do you offer sedation or other techniques to calm anxious kids?
While we do not offer sedation for pediatric patients, we do offer laughing gas for a calming effect. We also put a lot of care into creating the most comfortable and compassionate environment possible for young dental patients.
Are fluoride dental treatments safe / necessary?
While we do recommend fluoride treatments and it is part of standard care, we understand parents may have questions about fluoride. We follow all updated safety guidelines for child dental care, but we can certainly have a discussion about fluoride treatment over the phone or during your child’s first appointment.
Do you have pediatric care for special needs children?
Yes, we have two dental specialists that are part of a Special-Needs fellowship. They are specifically trained to help children with special needs and address all of their concerns.
Do you offer emergency dental care for kids?
Yes, we cover all common pediatric emergencies including discolored teeth, adult teeth that fell out, and painful toothaches. We also have every dental specialist you could need under one roof. This includes an oral pathologist for rare, hard to diagnose conditions, and even expert radiologists on staff. In short, we have you and your family covered for any unexpected dental concern or emergency. Learn more about pediatric emergencies.
How often should my child have dental appointments?
Generally speaking, children should have dental checkups every six months. This is important to address potential cavities and monitor growth and development.
