Program Synopsis

Between 15–20% of the U.S. population has some form of disability. Whether cognitive, emotional, or physical, these numbers are steadily growing. This workshop will identify some of the most common kinds of disabilities; and will share ways of thinking about the individual (both child & adult) with a disability and their family members. We will share strategies to enable effective work and care for patients with such disabilities.

Activity Objectives

  1. Facilitate a more meaningful understanding of individuals with disabilities.
  2. Facilitate a more meaningful understanding of the family members of individuals with disabilities.
  3. Identify some of the most common disabilities across disability categories.
  4. Foster meaningful ways to think about individuals with disabilities and their dental care.
  5. Acquire strategies for providing effective and supportive dental treatment to individuals (children & adults) with disabilities.

About Jeff Lichtman, Ph.D.
Dr. Jeff Lichtman, a school psychologist with many years of experience in both regular and special education settings, is the Lucille Weidman Chair of the newly established graduate program in Jewish Childhood Education & Special Education, Grades 1-6, at Touro College Graduate School of Education. As Director Emeritus of Yachad (the National Jewish Council for Disabilities), Jeff is well-known for his more than 30 years of visionary leadership where he grew Yachad into a worldwide force for inclusion and innovative programs, serving children and adults with disabilities. Jeff has masters’ degrees in psychology and education from St. Johns University and NYU. He received his undergraduate, rabbinical training and doctorate from Yeshiva University.
