Students explored residency programs in all areas of dental medicine including pediatrics, orthodontics, periodontics, and general dentistry. In addition to the fair itself, TCDM faculty held informational sessions on their specialties to give students a broader perspective of the field and provide guidance as they plan their career paths after dental school.

“Dentistry is not just about teeth, but learning and forming relationships so that we can give our patients the best care possible,” said D3 Daniel Brock, who attended the fair. “This residency fair gave us a great opportunity to begin forming these relationships.”

To obtain a license in New York State, dental students are required to complete a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) residency or a residency in a recognized dental specialty.

This year’s residency fair also brought back two class of 2022 alumni who are currently in general practice residency programs: Jacek Jarczynski in St. Charles Hospital, and Zaid Nesheiwat in St. Barnabas Hospital.

“Attending the residency fair as a student made me understand what a residency entails,” said Dr. Zaid Nesheiwat. “I wanted to give Touro students a similar opportunity to understand what residency was about and give them realistic expectations. I wanted to help explain residency and how residencies can expand their dental skills outside of a school setting environment.

Dental students were able to speak to representatives from leading healthcare systems including BronxCare Health Systems; Hackensack Meridian Health/Mountainside Medical Center; Jamaica Hospital; Morristown Medical Center; New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital; Newark Beth Israel Medical Center; Northwell Health Long Island; Jacobi Hospital; St. Barnabas Hospital; St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center; University of Rochester Eastman Institute of Oral Health; Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell at Staten Island University Hospital; St. Charles Hospital; NYU Langone; and The Brooklyn Hospital Center.
