On Monday June 5, Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) hosted its sixth annual Golf & Tennis Tournament at Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, NY. This year’s sold-out event brought together players and guests to raise funds to support the building of TouroCARES, the Center for Special Needs Care. The Center for Access, Respect, Empathy and Social justice (CARES) was conceptualized to bring oral healthcare to individuals with physical, emotional and intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD), in a unique clinical environment that specializes in providing oral healthcare to the population with limited or no access to dental care.

“TouroCares will provide access for this marginalized population to receive the oral healthcare they so desperately need and fulfills a mission of TCDM, to deliver excellent healthcare service to diverse communities with integrity, compassion and empathy. I am thankful for all the participants who made this day a great success,” said Ronnie Myers, DDS and Dean of TCDM.

The tournament drew in more than 170 members of the Touro Dental community from all over the state for a beautiful day of golf and activities on the tennis court, followed by a cocktail hour and silent auction with support from notable corporations. The tournament even had a hole-in-one winner, Dr. Ernie Ferrigno, who won a Mercedes Benz. The event successfully met TCDM’s fundraising goals thanks to the silent auction and its dedicated committee chairs, sponsors and attendees.

Touro University, the Touro College of Dental Medicine and the entire network of Touro schools were founded on the premise of accessibility to all, educational excellence and, in the process, encourage support to those whose life circumstance is more difficult than most of us will ever experience.
