Why We Have Research Day
This event provides a crucial platform for students to present their findings, share their projects, and engage in critical discussions with peers and faculty. This experience cultivates essential skills in scientific communication, evidence-based practice, and critical thinking, all vital for a career in modern dentistry. It's also an opportunity for students to receive valuable feedback from senior researchers and to prepare for national competitions. The winners of the research day poster competition earn the chance to represent TCDM at the prestigious AADOCR/Dentsply Sirona Student Competition for Advancing Dental Research and its Application (SCADA). This national competition allows them to showcase their work against peers from dental schools across the country.
Guest Speakers and Presentations
Each Research Day features a distinguished guest speaker who is a leader in the field. Past keynote speakers have included prominent figures such as Dr. Rena D'Souza, former Director of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), and, most recently, Dr. Eli Eliav, Vice President for Oral Health at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
In addition to these renowned guests, the Director of Research selects a student or students to present alongside the keynote speaker. This provides a unique opportunity for them to share their work with a broader audience and gain invaluable experience in scientific communication.
