About Us
With advanced technology and groundbreaking research, the landscape of dentistry has evolved in recent decades. As a young and dynamic institution, we easily embrace the latest innovations and best practices to ensure our graduates are prepared for the current and future world of dentistry.
A lot has changed in dentistry. And we’re right there at the forefront.
Growth and Expansion
Our campuses and facilities reflect this innovative and forward thinking focus. Our main location is on the New York Medical College (NYMC) campus which gives us access to NYMC faculty expertise in medicine, biomedical sciences, health sciences, and public health.
When we welcomed our first class at the NY campus in 2016, we were the 66th dental school to open in the United States, the first new dental school in New York State in over 50 years, and the first dental school in the U.S. under Jewish auspices.
Starting in July 2023, TCDM increased enrollment by 100 students per class, bringing the total number of students in each class to 214. All our dental students spend their first two years on TCDM’s Hawthorne, New York campus, learning biomedical foundational sciences and practicing simulated dental skills. The additional 100 students spend their last two clinical years at Touro College of Dental Medicine’s new Albuquerque, New Mexico dental facility treating patients. The other 114 continue their clinical education at the Touro Dental Health patient care facility on the NY campus.
Mission Driven
As a member of Touro University, Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) incorporates the hallmarks of Touro—a high-quality education with a focus on public health and serving the local community—and aims to graduate expertly trained, compassionate dentists equipped to practice in the 21st century.
Why New Mexico
New Mexico is in dire need of oral healthcare professionals and has struggled with representation in dental education and dental resources. Recent studies found that New Mexico has only 48.4 dentists per 100,000 people, significantly below the national average of 60.84—one of the lowest ratios in the country. Students are more likely to practice where they receive their dental education and there is currently no dental school in New Mexico. In keeping with Touro’s mission to meet the needs of under-resourced communities, Touro College of Dental Medicine has heeded the call and aims to meet the needs of the Albuquerque, NM community and improve dental care in the area.
