Touro College of Dental Medicine Presents at the 27th Hinman Student Research Symposium
Third- and Fourth- Year Dental Students and Members of the TCDM Research Society Presented Their Posters in Memphis, TN
Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) students were thrilled to present their research studies at the 27th Hinman Student Research Symposium in Memphis, Tennessee last month. The Hinman Student Research Symposium is a national meeting that features oral and poster presentations of research studies by dental students and graduate trainees from dental schools across North America and Canada.
Congratulations to Mullar Zakher (D3 and Magazine Editor at TCDM Research Society), Rachel Sebastien (D3 and Journal Editor at TCDM Research Society), and Anthony Muzika (D4 and Vice President of TCDM Research Society), for your amazing efforts in completing your research projects under the mentorship of Dr. Jaffer Shariff and Dr. Daniela Gurpegui-Abud.
Muzika’s presented on: “Dental and Systemic Disease Burden of COVID-19: A Retrospective Study and Recommendations on How to Handle Responses More Effectively to Healthcare Crises and Future Barriers to Care.”

Muzika highlighted the great opportunity research, and this conference offers, “It was a privilege to be the first group of students from TCDM to attend the Hinman Student Research Symposium. Being able to present to and learn from other dental students across the country was an incredible opportunity, and I recommend for other dental students to attend. It doesn’t hurt that Memphis is a fantastic city with amazing food and people. Research has been a large part of my education here at Touro and I love being given the resources to broaden my knowledge and explore fields of dentistry through research.”

I was able to network and exchange my research findings with dental students from all over the country. Participating in research has been so rewarding for me because I am able to gather evidence, which can be applied in the clinic when making informed decisions. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the research opportunities that TCDM provides!"
The goal of the Hinman Student Research Symposium is to help raise and maintain the quality of dental research and education in the U.S. by encouraging the participation of dental students, graduate trainees, and dental school faculty in research to improve oral health care globally.
Our students’ outstanding work was also presented at the TCDM Research Day.
