The Touro College of Dental Medicine Research Day highlights the important research efforts of dental students and faculty. A full day of programming will start with a luncheon with Touro University President, Dr. Alan Kadish, followed by TCDM’s first Poster Competition organized and led by Dr. Jaffer Shariff, Director of Research and Assistant Professor of Dental Medicine at TCDM.

The donning of the white coat is symbolic of a student’s commitment and dedication to the profession of dentistry. This special event marks the Class of 2021’s entry into the clinical setting as dental care providers.

This group will provide a space for Graduate School students to process their school experiences and to provide and receive support. It will focus on stress management, coping strategies, self-care, and school-related concerns.

Down syndrome is one of the most common and recognizable of the developmental disabilities. With its growing prevalence in the United States and worldwide, it is a syndrome with which the dentists of today and tomorrow will have to be able to competently and compassionately address. The goal of this presentation is to introduce and characterize the Down syndrome population and present the challenges and opportunities that dentists will face in their care.
